Carers Rights Day celebration: Thursday 21 November 2019

We have teamed up with the Carers UK to celebrate Carers Rights Day on Thursday 21 November 2019. This is a national day that helps to ensure unpaid carers are aware of their rights and where they can get help and support.  See poster and event details below.

Event Details

On Thursday 21 November 2019, Carers UK will have an information stall at Kings Cross Surgery from 10.00am to 12.30pm and from 1.30pm to 4.00pm.

At the information stall, you will be able to find out how Carers UK can provide help and support to you – or a family member, friend or neighbour who may be a carer.

All patients, friends and family are welcome to attend the event.

We want to know if you are a carer

Please let us know if you are a carer. Carers are people who provide unpaid support to a partner, relative or friend to live independently. Without this help, their health or wellbeing would deteriorate.

If you are a carer, the practice will be able to offer you additional support to meet your own health needs.

Dear Patients,

Please note that we are experiencing issues with the telephone lines at Kings Cross Surgery, this is due to a local BT issue that the telephone provider is working to resolve.

We have requested urgent and continuous updates, and have also asked the telephone provider to divert calls to our mobiles so we can provide, at the very least, a limited service for calls coming into the surgery. We apologise for any issues you may be experiencing and thank you for your patience.

Somers Town: Good CQC Rating

CQC’s new programme of inspections of England based GP practices focuses on rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led. Inspectors rated Somers Town Medical Centre “Good” for being well led and responsive to people’s needs.

Professor Steve Field, Chief Inspector of General Practice said “We carried out an announced comprehensive inspection at Somers Town Medical Centre on 11 September 2018 as part of our inspection programme.

At this inspection we found:

  • The practice had clear systems to manage risk so that safety incidents were less likely to happen. When incidents did happen, the practice learned from them and improved its processes.
  • The practice routinely reviewed the effectiveness and appropriateness of the care it provided. It ensured that care and treatment was delivered according to evidence-based guidelines.
  • Feedback from patient interviews and CQC comment cards was positive about the way staff treated them.
  • Patient feedback indicated that people sometimes found it difficult to gain access to the practice by telephone, although they were usually able to get an appointment when they did get through.
  • The provider’s patient list included a large cohort of Bengali patients and in response full time Bengali interpreters were based at the practice.
  • There was visible leadership and a strong focus on continuous learning and improvement at all levels of the practice.”
